10 Trickiest Job Interview Questions You Can Answer

The present recruiters have become very careful while hiring the candidates, especially when interviewing smart candidates. Asking tricky questions is a form of saving time is also a method to find out what kind of candidate they are actually interviewing, says Joyce Lain Kennedy, a career columnist and author of the book “Job interviews for Dummies”. Most of the time, the questions asked by the recruiters will be misleading just to figure out how smart is the candidate to answer the questions. Here is the list of tricky questions which can be asked by the hiring managers to the candidates as listed out by Joyce Lain Kennedy. You can also get to know the real meaning behind each question and the candidates can get to know how well they can answer it, as reported on Forbes website. You can learn how to answer the question in a much effective way.

1. Suppose you are hired here, how will you manage your time for other interviews?

Real meaning: To figure out, do you have any plans for changing your profession in a short time

Answer you can give: “I will be dedicated to the company and my position and I won’t be having any other career changing plans for the near future”.

2. How have you prepared for this job interview?

Real meaning: To find out, how much does this job really matter to you?

Answer you can give: “I am very much interested and excited to be hired for this job and I have also researched a lot to know some of the essential things about the company through the company website as I would love to work for this company.”

3. You know anyone working for us in this company?

Real meaning: just to know if they can get a good judge to know about your real character.

Answer you can give: Here, if you have a friend or an old colleague working for the company you are being interviewed, you can mention their name if you are sure that they hold a positive standing in the entire company and at the same time it will be good to avoid mentioning a friend’s name who is working there with negative standings, who has put the company’s reputation in trouble many times, because if you mention that person’s name it is you who will be in trouble to get that job.

4. Where would you like to work in future?

Real Meaning: Just to know if you have applied for all the job openings in sight.

Answer you can give: “This is my dream place to work and this is the field I am interested to work on every time.”

5. What is it that bugs you about your boss and your co-workers?

Real Meaning: Just to find out whether you are a social person or not to work with.

Answer you can give: “I have got good bosses and co-workers in all my previous professions. They were all supportive and friendly without any position barrier.”

6. Have you ever solved any critical problems in your earlier professions?

Real meaning: To know, whether you can think critically and work harder to solve the problem.

Answer you can give: Try to highlight an instance where you had worked harder to solve the problem in any of your previous companies. Also inform them about the skills you utilized to solve that problem and at last explain them about how you finally solved the problem successfully.

7. Explain about a work which you messed up.

Real meaning: To know about whether you will be repeating the same mistake again and again and also to check whether you will list out a big list of your flaws.

Answer you can give: Even though you have committed many mistakes at your previous offices, just explain them about any one of your flaws and make them also aware of the fact that you have learnt a very essential lesson from that experience and try to convince them that you are not going to repeat that mistake again any time.

8. Just think you have won a lottery, would you like to still continue with our company?

Real meaning: To figure out you are a hard worker or not as well as to know how much dedicated and interested you are towards your job.

Answer you can give: “If I win a lottery definitely I will be thrilled by hearing that news, but that doesn’t mean I will quit my job, because I enjoy meeting new challenges and enjoying my work every day.”

9. Will you continue in this company even after you don’t get promoted to higher positions after five years of your service to this company?

Real meaning: To know which is important to you is it your position or your field of interest.

Answer you can give: “Even if I am not promoted to higher positions, I don’t mind continuing to learn and grow in my current position. I will be a happy employee without any frustration”.

10. Can I trust you before hiring you? Because you have already changed many jobs before coming here.

Real meaning: To make sure whether they can be confident about hiring you.

Answer you can give: “Changing many jobs has helped me to be a better employee and it has helped me to gain various knowledge and different skills which I have learnt from different companies. And I think I can make a good use of that if I get hired here.”

Think out of the Box!!!! Six beautiful HR Questions!!

Here are some of the typical HR questions asked to find out if the candidates have "out of box" thinking capability

Question 1:

"What will you do if I run away with your sister?"

The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match for my sister than you, sir."

Question 2:

Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What if one morning you woke up & found that you were pregnant ?

I will be very excited and take a day off, to celebrate with my husband. (Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why should I think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked.)

Question 3:

Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate, then he asked "What is before you?"

Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea" and got selected.

(You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before him?.
Answer: The question was "What is before you U? (-alphabet). Reply was "TEA" T (- alphabet).

Question 4:

Where Lord Rama would have celebrated his "First Diwali"?

People will start thinking of Ayodya, Mithila [Janaki's place], Lanka etc...

But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna Killing Narakasura. In Dusavataar, Krishnavathaar comes after Raamavathaar.

So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!

Question 5:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; * or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back. *
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again...

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

Question 6:

The interviewer asked the candidate "This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u have kept your files."

Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and said that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked "how did you decide that this is the central point of this table?", then he answers quickly that "Sir you are not supposed to ask any more question, as it was the last question as you promised .....

And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness.

This is what Interviewer expects from the Interviewee.....
